Samuel Baron Domaine Baron Touraine 2016 Sauvignon Blanc France>Loire Valley> Touraine Nose: Fragrant, Tropical Fruit The Barons prune severely in the fall season to limit yields to a very low under-40 hectolitres per hectare and ensure healthier, riper fruit. Organic, composted fertilizer is used only when necessary, and the winemakers strive to prevent vine diseases and parasites before they become problematic. The topsoil is lightly tilled so as the remove weeds without disturbing the sub-soil, thereby encouraging the vine’s roots to go further down into the ground. The deeper the roots, the more consistent the wine is from vintage to vintage, since the vines are less affected by temperature variations in the top soil. |

Reserve de Vaufuget Vouvray Chenin Blanc France>Loire Valley>Vouvray From the Winemaker: The wine gives a sweet sensation with a dry finish on the palate. A concentration of rich flavors develop fruity aromas such as fresh grapes and ripe quinces with slight honey notes. Vouvray wines can be kept for many years. The Vouvray vineyards are situated upstream from Tours in the North of the Loire valley. Vines are planted on clay limestone and clay siliceous grounds on the chalky “Tuffeau” soil. The vines roots overhang the cellars built in the rock nearby the houses called “Troglodytes”. The ripe grapes are handpicked during October. Some of the grapes have noble rot also known as botrytis which concentrates the sugar in the grapes. The wines ferment very slowly over a month. |

Domaine DEs Brosses Sancerre Blanc Sauvignon Blanc France>Loire>Sancerre From the Winemaker: A classic Sancerre from an historic Domaine, owned and run by the Girard family since 1973. Nicolas and brother Anthony are making fresh, modern and aromatic wines, and this is a super example of quality Loire Sauvignon Blanc. Domaine des Brosses was established in 1875 and lies 10 kms south of the town of Sancerre. The Girard family modernised the winery and vineyards when they bought the estate in 1973. Nicolas Girard has now taken over his father's 11 hectare estate and, with his brother Anthony, is making wines that are fresh, modern and aromatic. Both the brothers have travelled extensively throughout the wine world, and have used the knowledge and experience acquired to underpin the style of their classic Sancerre. Bright and pale golden. A fresh, citrus palate has herbaceous notes of hay and nettle. Richly textured but with crisp acidity and textbook minerality. The finish is elegant with typical purity and refreshment of excellent Sancerre. |

Château Batailley Gran Cru 2012 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot France>Bordeaux> Médoc> Pauillac Eyes: Dark Purple Château Batailley, a 5th Grand Cru Classé of the classification of 1855, is the family Castéja’s and Borie-Manoux’s flagship. It is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. The name is derived from the battle („bataille“) - that took place where the chateau and vineyard are today - during the 100-years war in the in 1452. In this battle, the French re-conquered the neighbouring Chateau Latour from the English, a crucial point in the history of Aquitaine. A few years later the first vines were planted on this historical and blood soaked grounds. Chateau Batailley’s garden was designed by Barillet-Deschamps, Napoleon III’s garden architect. In 1855 Napoleon III created the classification for the Grands Crus Classés of the Medoc. And Batailley was knighted Grand Cru. |
